So apparently I should have been draining my hot water heater once a year to prevent sediment?? This is the shit about home ownership that no one ever tells you. Like how my property taxes have literally QUADRUPLED because I had no idea WTF homestead exemption was or that I was supposed to file for it IMMEDIATELY.
I feel like this is the same thing if you have children, you just gotta figure some of this stuff out as you go along. So this all came about because the hot water heater is sitting in a sunny little corner of the shoppe, all smiles and rainbows and – most recently – increasingly loud pops and bangs. HMM. The first two are amazing, the last two are actually quite unsettling because he sounds like he’s about to erupt like Mount Vesuvius, spraying hot molten lava all over the place… And this past Saturday night, I ALMOST just bought a new one. I’ve had my eye on this Wi-Fi enabled Smart Hot Water Heater who lets you know when you have enough hot water for a long steamy shower… And I’m actually not sure how old this one is, the sticker on the side has energy ratings from 2007 so any time after that. And it’s not like I don’t love this little bloke, I just don’t know that much about him. For the new readers, this is the house I inherited from my Grandma and – to give you an accurate idea – just think about the house from that 80s movie, The Money Pit. So I’m thinking well fuck it, who knows what’s wrong or how old he is, but then I’m thinking like… Is that the lazy way out? We all know how much I love learning new things and especially anything mechanical. I just love knowing how things work. “Mystery is knowledge not yet discovered.” So I did some research and apparently these are the sounds from a sediment buildup at the bottom of the tank. So I watched a video on how to properly flush the system and it says you’re supposed to do this EVERY YEAR. So I know that I’ve NEVER done this and who the hell knows if it’s EVER been done. So I’m going to give it a go this afternoon and see what happens! OH! And I totally ROCKED my custom Cult Star order yesterday! SO stoked!! And even biked down to the post office before they closed and got it shipped off! I didn’t have any Express Mail flat rate envelopes so I went down there to grab one and I got a few extra so I have some here now! So I’m super proud about that: my first ever custom order WITH overnight shipping, placed on Sunday and shipped off Monday afternoon!! That’s how we do on Planet Jenna, baby!! SO EXCITED!! Okay, I’m gonna go tackle this hot water heater and then sunbathe this afternoon and I had an idea for a new shoot I wanna do, so I’m thinking I may do that tonight if I have time!!
